We need to know about your organization’s board of directors. If it hasn’t been formed yet, then you’ll need to form your board now, even if it only consists of 3-4 officers (Hint: Usually you’ll at least want a president, a vice-president, a secretary and a treasurer or a secretary/treasurer, and the IRS suggests that your officers are not related, nor should officers live in the same household.
Additionally, the IRS would like to see all your BOD officers/directors living within the area in which you will be providing services…not in another state. (By the way, when the IRS “suggests” something, it usually means that’s the way they want it; so basically, your officers should not be related, nor should they live in the same household, nor should they live in a different state! So what we’re saying here is that when forming your board, please do not include persons who are related and/or living in the same household!)
